Embers October 2026 Update

Embers is now one app

For a long time Embers was really three sites with shared connections. Vault held your Rules, Spells, Items, and Characters. Play ran your Campaigns and Sessions. Imagine was the writer’s room for Worlds and Adventures. They talked to each other, but you still felt the seams: separate pages, separate logins, separate mental models.

In September we merged them into a single, consolidated system, served from one home at app.embersds.com. You sign in once and while the menus remain distinct, the app remembers which tool you were last using and drops you back there. Your old bookmarks still work, they just redirect to the new home.

This was the quiet-but-huge kind of work: most of it you should never notice. No maintenance window, no data migration, and the move itself took seconds. But getting ready for those seconds was a huge effort. Now, though, every new feature can reach across all three tools instead of being rebuilt three times.

Everywhere

  • Single Profile. You now have one consolidated profile to control your account.
  • Bugs & Requests, one tap away. The navbar now links straight to a submissions form (more on that below).

In Play

  • Editing autosaves now. Campaign and session edits save every field and ruleset toggle as you make them, with a little status badge so you know it landed.
  • Battlemap, hands-on. There is a ruler that measures in grid squares of your map, with a live label while you drag. You can copy, cut, and paste tokens, including keyboard shortcuts, and back-to-back pastes get their own instance numbers. Bring Forward and Send Backward now swap layers cleanly with the neighbor.
  • Initiative cleanup. Players set initiative scores on their own tokens; the GM edits everyone else’s and handles the order. Empty scores read as a dash instead of a confusing zero.
  • Session Zero authoring. Sort sections and prompts from a drag list, the way reordering already worked on iPhone. There is a clean split between authoring (Edit/Fill) and reading Responses, remembered per campaign.
  • Recaps belong to their authors. A player’s recap answers to that player now vs the GM.

In Vault

  • One set of rules and characters. With Vault folded into the main app, your rules, spells, items, and characters read and save through the same routes as everything else. Fewer round trips, one consistent behavior.

In Imagine

  • Markdown reads right everywhere. Summaries across worlds, adventures, rules, spells, items, timelines, search, and campaigns now render bold, italic, and links instead of showing you raw markdown marks. Video embeds show a tidy “Video” link.
  • Premium world notes. Public and link notes on a world are now a Premium or VIP feature.
  • Minimap is now Area Map. Same feature, clearer name, everywhere in the app.

On iOS

  • The app and the web now agree. iOS reads the same shared rules engine as the website, so spell save DCs, ability checks, hit dice, trackers, and labels behave identically no matter where you open your sheet.
  • Links open in the app. Tapping an app.embersds.com link opens the exact world, adventure, page, campaign, or character inside the app.
  • Battlemap, worlds, and tools caught up. The iOS battlemap gained the ruler, copy/paste, library previews, and web-matching initiative. World page editing, the round-token maker, announcements, FAQs, achievements, favorites, and the Imagine tab’s name generators and Shoren translator all landed to match the web.

Bug reports and feature requests

There is now a report form built into the top bar and into iOS. Attach a screenshot (or several), send a bug or a feature idea, and track it from a My Submissions list with an activity feed and replies. Bug reports quietly carry the app’s recent errors along for context, so we can chase them down.

Fixes and polish

A lot of this month was foundation. Errors across the site now speak one plain language instead of leaking raw technical text. A handful of privacy fixes tighten our privacy-first stance. And the character clone, equipment folding on sheets, and a long tail of rendering and permission bugs all got tightened up.

What’s next

With everything under one roof, we’re contemplating an official Android app to sit alongside our web and iOS app.

Jump into the new unified home at app.embersds.com, and if something feels off, hit the bug icon in the top bar and let us know. The form goes straight to us.
